Adsense and Wordpress MU

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

I promised a post on Wordpress MU vs. Wordpress single user version 2.3.1. For any person that is planing to start their own Adsense network you would need to take the decision which website type you will use for your network. You have the choice between standard websites, CMS websites like Joomla or going with a blog website. My advice is, if you want to blog then stick with Wordpress. If your choice is Wordpress then there is one further decision you must take, Wordpress Single or Muti User version ? I have tested both versions and after sufficient testing I came to following results. I will only mention several in this post. Will be happy to answer any questions in our forum:

Wordpress MU (Multi User)

1.) Installation is simple if you don’t have any experience with WP as there are different settings in the MU version. The config sample file does not need to be renamed as in 2.3.

2.) To get the MU version to function there are some changes that need to be applied to one of the Apache server files. Sufficient info can be found in the Wordpress MU forum so I will not go into details. If you are on shared hosting your provider might not allow these changes. In my case these where standard settings and all went well. In addition you need a DNS wildcard for the main or sub domain you are using to host WPMU.

3.) Setting up a new blog is fairly simple. With a few clicks you have a blog, ready to start adding contents.

4.) All blogs can be run via 1 MySql data base which is a huge advantage especially if your hosting solution does not include a huge number of data bases.

5.) Plugins don’t work as well with MU hosted blogs as they do in version 2.3

6.) The biggest problem that I could not solve was that any person can register a blog and there is only the choice of locking registration or optionally letting any person register. Both are not suitable. The option of confirming registrations via e-mail is missing.

Wordpress and Seo plugins

Wordpress Seo

Wordpress offers a little optimization of the permanent links which is in fact not much more than the folder structure and file names.

There are many third-party plugins available and I guess I have tried them all to figure out which one is the best. Unfortunately this plugin is in German only but that is not much of a problem.

I personally like the plugin wpSEO from Sergej Müller. Great plugin thanks Sergej :-) Here is a back link from me. Wordpress seo plugin

This plugin offers a fast number of options. You can configure the plugin so that it automatically choses title, description or keywords but the better option is to actually activate manual title, description and keyword in put.

Step by step instruction :

* Upload the plugin with your ftp program to wp-content/plugins , then activate the plugin
* configure the plugin using following steps ( options…>> wpseo )

Title : Use the same settings I have used here if you can’t read German

Description : Also use these settings

The Keywords are not important as search engines don’t take note of these.

At the bottom of each post or page you write you will find following options where you can enter the title and description you want the page or post to have :
