Wordpress Seo

Wordpress offers a little optimization of the permanent links which is in fact not much more than the folder structure and file names.

There are many third-party plugins available and I guess I have tried them all to figure out which one is the best. Unfortunately this plugin is in German only but that is not much of a problem.

I personally like the plugin wpSEO from Sergej Müller. Great plugin thanks Sergej :-) Here is a back link from me. Wordpress seo plugin

This plugin offers a fast number of options. You can configure the plugin so that it automatically choses title, description or keywords but the better option is to actually activate manual title, description and keyword in put.

Step by step instruction :

* Upload the plugin with your ftp program to wp-content/plugins , then activate the plugin
* configure the plugin using following steps ( options…>> wpseo )

Title : Use the same settings I have used here if you can’t read German

Description : Also use these settings

The Keywords are not important as search engines don’t take note of these.

At the bottom of each post or page you write you will find following options where you can enter the title and description you want the page or post to have :

Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization Any difference

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

For many casual internet users, the terms SEM and SEO rarely enter their minds when they are busy jumping from one website to another. However, it is these terms that determine much of what comes out on the results page whenever we type in a word in the search tab of any accessible search engine. These terms are also responsible for all those advertisements and pop-ups that link us to even more websites, whether they may be connected to our original search or not. So just what are SEM and SEO?In the simplest way possible, SEM and SEO are tools which website creators, especially those who are promoting and selling a certain service or product, use in order to gain a lot of exposure and better ranking for their website. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, the simplicity ends there. To make it a tad bit complex, SEM and SEO are not the same. As suggested by the names, SEM, or Search Engine Marketing, deals more with how a website is marketed to gain exposure in the different search engines available on the internet, while SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, deals with how the web creators develop and re-develop the content, quality and structure of their entire websites so that whenever an internet user types in a particular word in the search tab, their websites have a better chance of appearing on the first few search engine results pages (SERPS).Now, to make it even more complex, although the functions of SEM and SEO seem different, they are more effective when used together. Since the main function of SEM is to gain more exposure for a website, the more common means for attraction are online advertisements, blogs, internet articles, partner and sponsored websites, and anything that can catch the eye of the internet user. SEM also makes use of PPC (pay-per-click) and paid inclusion to further push a website’s visibility. Lastly, it is also an important process in SEM to submit the name and URL of a website to different search engines and web directories if only to inform them of the website’s existence. All this is carried out to ensure the popularity of a website.

Non-Content SEO

Non-Content SEO

This school of thought maintains that the actual content on the website is less important than the way it is optimised. Whilst the content should still be good quality, content alone is insufficient to compete in the top SERPs. Instead, webmasters must use other methods to increase their rankings. For simplicity’s sake we will call all such methods Non-Content SEO.

With non-content SEO the focus is on understanding the methods and algorithms used to rank web pages. The webmaster must therefore have a very good technical knowledge of how search engines work. For example, knowing exactly how Google’s PR is calculated means you can structure your site to give the best possible PR value, which in turn will lead to improved SERP rankings.

Content Based SEO

Content-Based SEO

This school of thought adopts the principle that the content of your website is what really matters. This could be described as the “purist” view which assumes that if people develop high-quality websites, they will be rewarded with high-quality search rankings.

The theory is that good content will attract attention, inbound links and other referrals. Over time the accumulation of good press will give you many of the same benefits as other methods of SEO. In addition, this type of “natural” referral tends to be more genuine, diverse, robust and long-lasting.

This approach is better suited to websites which can provide large quantities of content, especially unique content. If, for example, your website is about the life cycle of the native New Zealand tuatara lizard, you will probably have plenty of content in a field without much competition. In this case a modest amount of content and a few links from other sites will give you a good chance of being well-placed in the SERPS.
